Canelo Alvarez gets only a strong ‘B-plus-plus’ from brutal critic Shawn Porter
After Canelo's loss to Dmitry Bivol fans have started to believe the Mexican fighter is out of his prime. Former boxer Shawn Porter also expressed a similar concern as a critic.

Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez is one of the best boxers in the sport. Alvarez had gone undefeated for almost a decade after his loss to Floyd Mayweather. However, after his second career loss to Dmitry Bivol last year, many believe the Mexican fighter is a declining boxer. Former champion and critic Shawn Porter, who formerly hailed Canelo as one of the greatest, also shifted sides and rated Alvarez a B++ fighter.
After his loss to Bivol, Canelo Alvarez defended his undisputed super middleweight title against Gennady Golovkin. He then put on a dominant performance against John Ryder and won via unanimous decision. Although Canelo defended his titles, many believed he was out of his prime. Former professional boxer and sports commentator Shawn Porter also gave his opinion on the matter.
After reviewing Canelo’s last few fights, Porter graded Canelo as a B ++ fighter. He believes Canelo Alvarez struggles with stamina and has hardly exercised any new variations in his last fights. Porter is the same person who hailed Canelo as the greatest of this generation 2-3 years back. However, after looking at his recent performances, the sports commentator believed Alvarez had too much mileage on him.
“ I just think that between time between the mileage on him now he’s more of a B ++ fighter. Certainly not the A plus party that he was two to three years ago,” said Shawn Porter. Canelo’s upcoming fight with Jermell Charlo, who is moving up two divisions, also has fans under the impression Alvarez is cherry-picking opponents. Regardless, his fight against Jermell Charlo will give fans a good idea of how out of prime is the Mexican fighter.
Canelo to fight Jermall Charlo’s twin instead of the middleweight champion

After demolishing John Ryder in his previous bout, Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez started scouting opponents for his next bout. He wanted the rematch with Dmitry Bivol. However, both fighters could not come to agree on similar terms, and the bout failed to materialize. After signing a multi-fight deal with PBC, Alvarez looked forward to fighting middleweight boxer Jermall Charlo.
Jermall had not fought after his bout in 2021 and thought he wouldn’t be in the right mindset to train for the fight. He is also dealing with some personal issues at the moment, which is why he was out of the fight. Instead, Jermall’s twin, Jermell Charlo, will take his place. Jermell has not fought since 2022, recovering from a left-hand injury. He was supposed to defend his title against Tim Tszyu this year.
Instead, “Iron Man” will move up two weight classes to fight Canelo Alvarez. Jermell is the undisputed champion at 154 lbs and will go up against Canelo, who thrives in the 168 lbs division and is also an undisputed champion. The bout will take place in September, and both fighters are guaranteed to make millions from their fight.
