The undisputed super-middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez, and the undisputed light-middleweight champion, Jermell Charlo, will fight each other on September 30, 2023. Furthermore, the highly anticipated fight will be at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The current light middleweight champion, Charlo, made the journey across two weight classes to take on Alvarez. Furthermore, people consider Charlo the underdog for this fight since he moved up two divisions while Alvarez is fighting at his usual weight.
Subsequently, both fighters started their careers at the same time and were the same age. Hence, it is difficult to state which fighter is the better boxer, but both Alvarez and Charlo thought they were the best. During the press conference, Charlo boldly claimed, “I’m a motherf***ing lion,” and stated that many people don’t believe in Alvarez. Subsequently, Alvarez responded, “I don’t know what animal I need to say to beat a lion, but…but whatever…I am that animal.”
The Mexican boxing superstar’s calm and humble response made the audience laugh. Furthermore, during the press conference, Charlo hyped himself up several times, but he unexpectedly acknowledged Alvarez and his legacy.
Subsequently, Charlo stated that Alvarez has nothing left to prove in the sport and has fought many great fighters. In addition, Alvarez agreed with Charlo, but he stated that he had to prove Charlo wrong for doubting his skills.
Oscar De La Hoya predictions for Alvarez vs. Charlo
Oscar De La Hoya served as Canelo Alvarez’s promoter for over ten years. Although the two parted ways in 2020, Hoya continues to answer questions regarding Alvarez’s career. Hoya thought Charlo would have difficulty beating Alvarez since he had to go up two weight classes.
Subsequently, Hoya stated that the Mexican boxer would easily win if Charlo could not set the phase with his jab. However, Hoya is confident that he will prevail if Charlo has control over the flow of the fight. Hoya also referenced Canelo Alvarez‘s fight against Dmitry Bivol and how he maintained his distance with his jab. In addition, this strategy might not come into use as Alvarez suffered an injury before his match against Bivol.
Furthermore, Alvarez has addressed how he wasn’t at his best during that fight and plans to redeem himself. Alvarez has also stated how Charlo’s trash talk heavily motivated him to prove Charlo wrong.
