As the current face of boxing, everyone is looking forward to seeing who Canelo Alvarez plans on fighting next. Alvarez’s last fight was on September 30, 2023, when he performed a masterclass against Jermell Charlo. Subsequently, Alvarez had previously stated that he wished to silence both the Charlo brothers for their trash-talking. Hence, there have been talks about Alvarez fighting Jermell’s older brother, Jermall Charlo, in 2024.

However, after the announcement, most fans and experts were disappointed and unimpressed with this matchup. As such, many people feel that the fight against Jermall will go the same way as the fight against Jermell. After the fight announcement emerged, the PBC showed its appreciation for the matchup and has now offered a deal to Canelo Alvarez. Furthermore, boxing journalist Michael Benson reported the news, stating:

Al Haymon's PBC is reportedly ready to pay Canelo Alvarez his guaranteed purse, said to be 'around $35 million,' for a fight vs. Jaime Munguia on May 4th.

Subsequently, the PBC has stated one condition for this $35 million deal, that Alvarez cannot insist on fighting Jermall. In addition, the PBC stated that they believe the fight between Alvarez and Jaime Munguia will sell better than a fight against Jermall.

Furthermore, Munguia recently defeated John Ryder with an impressive ninth-round knockout. Hence, the fight between Munguia and Alvarez can be an interesting showdown between the Mexican boxers for Cinco de Mayo. However, boxing experts continue to demand that Alvarez fight David Benavidez next.

WBC President gives update on Alvarez vs. Benavidez

Boxing fans are disappointed since Alvarez’s next opponent is rumored to be either Jermall or Munguia instead of Benavidez. This has led fans to believe that Alvarez is cherry-picking opponents and avoiding the fight with Benavidez. However, even though Alvarez won’t fight Benavidez in his next fight, their eventual showdown is still a possibility.

In May 2022, Benavidez won the WBC Interim Super-Middleweight title after a dominant victory over David Lemieux. Subsequently, Benavidez has now become a mandatory challenger for Alvarez, and he will have to face him soon. The WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman, spoke about this fight during an interview with ‘Pro Boxing Fans’.

Further, Sulaiman revealed that this fight has been building up for some time, and it’s the fight that fans want. In addition, the WBC president stated confidently that he believes the fight will happen.
