“Need to accept it” – Canelo Alvarez says he has accepted and moved on from the defeat against Dmitry Bivol

Canelo Alvarez vs Dmitry Bivol

Canelo Alvarez has been one of the most dominant fighters in recent boxing history with multiple title wins and defences. Coming into 2020, Alvarez was 57-1 with only one loss to the legendary Floyd Mayweather. However, the fighter lost his second ever professional bout when he fought Dmitry Bivol in a light heavyweight bout. It was surprise for the fans as given the momentum possessed by Alvarez he was looking unstoppable.

Months after his loss, Alvarez is now back with another mega fight, this time with his old nemesis Gennady Golovkin. The pair have already fought twice in 2017 and 2018 and both were highly controversial. The first fight ended in a draw however, many thought GGG should have won the bout. In the second fight, which the Mexican won, GGG was not satisfied with the majority decision.

“It is what it is. Like I said before, you are in a sport, you can lose, too. So, you need to go forward. And I think my mind is very strong, so I need to keep [moving] and I have in front [of me] Golovkin. Dangerous fighter, too, good fighter. And that’s it. And, like I said, when you win you celebrate and [you’re] happy and everything. And when you lose, you need to accept it, too, to keep [moving] forward. Nobody likes to lose, right? But it is what it is. It’s boxing. I keep [moving] forward, training hard and that’s it. Next move.”

After that defeat, Alvarez faced a lot of criticism but it seems like the fighter has felt no pressure whatsoever. The anticipation around this fight is massive and it is definitely going to be a massive fight.
