Canelo Alvarez‘s return to the ring has been eagerly awaited by boxing fans all over the world. Furthermore, many were taken aback when several media outlets reported that Alvarez would be announcing his upcoming fight this week. Subsequently, it was announced that Alvarez would be fighting Jermall Charlo after defeating his twin brother Jermell Charlo in his last fight. The announcement that fans were waiting for has disappointed fans who want to see him fight David Benavidez.
Fans have demanded that Alvarez fight Benavidez next. Benavidez is the WBC Super Middleweight Champion and is a mandatory challenger for Canelo Alvarez. However, Alvarez appears to be ducking and avoiding this fight and instead chooses to fight Charlo, who has been relatively inactive. Furthermore, the news of the Alvarez vs. Charlo fight was announced by Happy Punch on X, stating “Canelo Alvarez will take on Jermall Charlo on May 4th in Las Vegas, per Ring Magazine.”
Alvarez’s decision to fight Charlo is not strange since he announced that he would make the Charlo brothers pay for their trash-talking. Hence, after dealing with the younger brother, Jermell, Alvarez has now shifted his focus to Jermall.
Similarly, Charlo also wishes to avenge his twin brother’s loss, which resulted in his children getting bullied in school. Furthermore, Charlo is confident of defeating Alvarez even after the Mexican boxer dominated his brother and won.
Fans react to Canelo Alvarez’s fight announcement
After Alvarez defeated Jermell, it doesn’t appear that they want to see him fight Jermall. However, Jermall won’t have to move up in weight to fight Alvarez, unlike his brother. Hence, Jermall does have an advantage while fighting Alvarez, but fans are expecting the same result to unfold.
Subsequently, this is why fans wanted to see Alvarez fight Benavidez, which would have been more interesting. However, that fight won’t be happening anytime soon, and fans are now utterly disappointed with Alvarez’s next opponent. As such, fans reacted to the announcement of the Alvarez vs. Charlo fight, stating, “The fight nobody asked for. Smdh”
Fans expressed how upset they were about Alvarez not fighting Benavidez and instead fighting Charlo. Furthermore, fans remarked that Alvarez is going after the Charlo bloodline back to back. Some fans also feel that Alvarez is chasing an easy payday instead of a hard fight.
