Despite not having the official scorecard victory over Tyson Fury, Francis Ngannou felt like the biggest winner of the night after knocking down the heavyweight lineal champion and going above and beyond.
The official judges’ scores for the bout were 96-93, 95-94 for Fury, and 95-94 for Ngannou. As usual with high-profile fights that result in a verdict, social media was filled with heated debates and comments following the battle. Although the fight was undoubtedly tight and intensely fought, it’s important to note that a number of well-known personalities in the boxing and MMA communities agreed that Ngannou should have been the winner.
Similarly, undefeated MMA fighter and former kickboxing champion Cedric Doumbe, hailing from the same Cameroonian-French heritage as Ngannou, couldn’t resist weighing in. Doumbe, known for his unblemished record, took to Twitter to express his unwavering belief that the former UFC champion, Ngannou, was the rightful victor in this hard-fought clash of heavyweight titans. He wrote,
"All experts know that Francis won. For the honor of boxing, they couldn't make him the winner. Bravo."Cedric Doumbe on X
Ngannou and Doumbe are good friends and earlier this year, they were even seen sparring with each other. His claims about Ngannou’s triumph added an extra layer of legitimacy to the growing voices of criticism proclaiming Ngannou’s victory in this closely contested bout.
Francis Ngannou blames ‘shameless’ judges for his loss against Tyson Fury
After making his boxing debut and putting on an unbelievable show against the world champion, Ngannou expressed his pride in his performance, which is why he’s satisfied with the outcome. However, he also knew that if the bout went to the scorecards, things wouldn’t work out for him.
The fighter posted a YouTube video following his controversial loss in which he expressed his confidence in winning the fight. Francis Ngannou believed the judges’ decisions were a shame for both boxing and the sport in general, emphasizing the need for sanctions and a deeper understanding of their judgment criteria.
Ngannou also revealed that he’s going to run it back with Tyson Fury in the future and plans to fight twice a year from now. On top of it, Ngannou explained that he’s not sure if it’s going to be MMA or boxing, but after last night, he’s definitely inclined towards entering the squared ring in a few months again.
