Through the decades, the sport of boxing has undergone multiple changes. During the 80s and 90s when there was no UFC for competition, boxers did not cherry-pick their opponents. Legends like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson have losses on their record. However, later on, many fighters wanted to retire with zero losses in their career. Undisputed Lightweight champion Devin Haney discussed this phenomenon during an interview.

In a recent interview on The Pivot Podcast, Devin Haney discussed his boxing career, his next fight, and more. During the podcast, Haney was questioned why he takes every fight offered instead of strategizing his career like other fighters. “The Dream” had a befitting reply to this question. According to him, he is a throwback fighter and willing to fight anyone like the fighters during the 80s,90s, and early 2000s.

Haney also added that not many fighters want to fight each other. They focus on getting more money while fighting the easiest fights. Although, The Dream gave praise where necessary. He appreciated the undisputed super middleweight champion, Canelo Álvarez‘s tenacity to go in different weight classes and test himself

Devin Haney also talked about changing the whole dynamic of boxing and making it more like UFC. “Look at UFC, those guys fight each other, lose, fight again and still equally as big, maybe even bigger,” said The Dream. ” Look at Israel Adesanya, he lost and then he came back and won and now he even bigger than earlier,” added the undisputed lightweight champion.

Devin Haney thinks that Floyd Mayweather messed up the sport by making an undefeated record the utmost priority. Due to Mayweather, many boxers cherry-pick their fights, so they could preserve their undefeated records. Devin Haney has also accused lightweight champion Gervonta Davis of doing the same in the past.
