Devin Haney put on a masterful performance on Saturday night at San Francisco’s Chase Center. In his super lightweight debut at 140 lbs., Haney won unanimously and became a two-division champion. Regis Prograis was supposed to be a tough opponent, but the fight became arguably one of Haney’s best performances. Across the fight, Prograis hurled a lot of trash talk towards Haney and his inability to KO opponents.
Haney tactically dealt with Prograis and completely dismantled any threats inside the ring. Compared to Devin Haney and Prograis, Haney’s father, Bill Haney, and Prograis’s coach, Evins Tobler, had much more trash talk. Subsequently, Prograis and Tobler kept stating how Haney acted tough like a gangster but studied at a private school. At the post-fight press conference, Haney had the last laugh as he stated:
Man, I'm just a private school kid. That’s all, that’s all.Devin Haney via post fight press conference
A journalist brought up how Prograis had mentioned that Haney had no supporters in San Francisco and that people were rooting for Prograis. However, during the fight, the arena chanted Haney’s name, and the reporter asked Haney how it made him feel. Haney stated with a witty response that he was just a private school kid, with a smile on his face.
Furthermore, Haney wanted to reflect on the several things that Prograis and his team had mentioned about Haney. Subsequently, Haney’s simple and witty response completely invalidated anything that Prograis and his team said about Haney.
Regis Prograis wishes to switch to MMA
Even though Prograis lost to Haney in a one-sided fight, he still looked forward to his fighting career. In the post-fight press conference, Prograis stated his desire to dominate the sport of boxing and become a three-time world champion. However, Prograis also hinted that his time in the sport may be coming to an end.
The fight ended with Haney winning unanimously, and all three judges scored 120-107 in favor of Haney. Furthermore, Haney completely dominated the fight and won every round, while Prograis only threw a total of 36 punches.
After the fight, Prograis expressed his desire to become a three-time world champion but stated that it may be too soon for it. Subsequently, Prograis also mentioned his aspirations of leaving boxing and entering MMA.
In addition, Prograis stated that he wants to be a three-time champion before he leaves boxing to transition into MMA. Hence, Prograis aims to become a three-time world champion, after which he wants to switch to MMA.
