It’s no secret that Ryan Garcia has had an intense rivalry with Devin Haney since their amateur boxing days. They’ve been at each other’s throats every step of the way leading up to their WBC title fight on April 20 at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in New York City. Moreover, things escalated to a whole new level after yesterday’s pre-fight press conference at New York’s Palladium Times Square.

Haney and Ryan Garcia both won thrice during their encounters as amateur boxers. In addition, the former claimed that Garcia hasn’t improved since their amateur days when they fought six times before exploding into the professional ranks.

As such, during an interview with Fight Hype, Haney shot down the notion that Garcia has a shot at beating him. Haney said,

Ryan has not changed since becoming an amateur. He’s been fighting the same way. Of course, he got bigger and stronger. But he’s just… if you look at his amateur fights, old amateur fights, he’s doing the same thing.

Haney has already asserted that Garcia has not improved at all, even after becoming a professional fighter. The former then mentioned that their first fight was when they were 10, and their sixth was when they were 16.

Hence, the 25-year-old is confident that he has gauged Garcia’s skills, which haven’t changed much, allegedly. In addition, Haney stated that his opponent has become stronger and bigger since their amateur boxing days. However, despite everything, Haney ardently feels that he cannot be defeated by Garcia and his current skill set.

Ryan Garcia interrupts Eddie Hearn after he claims Devin Haney is unbeatable

Ahead of the Garcia vs. Haney fight, many people believe that Haney has a better chance of emerging victorious. Furthermore, both of them are skilled fighters, but the latter has remained undefeated throughout his career. Eddie Hearn also shares the same line of thought and stated the same during a recent press conference.

Subsequently, Hearn stated that Haney is unbeatable and is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. However, this statement did not sit well with Garcia, who was sitting on a throne for the press conference. Hence, Garcia interrupted Hearn and asked him not to lie.

Hearn made it known that everyone is beatable, but he will always back Devin Haney when it comes to a fight. Ryan Garcia replied by telling Hearn that he likes him, but he should not lie or make absurd statements. The recent press conference has increased excitement for the upcoming clash between Garcia and Haney.
