In the world of boxing, words are exchanged, promises are made, and rivalries are rekindled. Furthermore, this is a dance that has been performed many times before. This time, it’s happening again between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia, who are set to fight on April 20th. Ahead of the fight, Haney has made the bold claim that he is better than Garcia inside the ring. The topic arose after an interviewer from DAZN asked Haney about his six fights with Ryan Garcia. The interviewer asked about his experience in those fights and inquired about the potential strengths he has over Garcia. Haney answered by stating:
Ryan has always been a good fighter since we were kids. But I felt like, over time, I'd just grown past him and gotten a lot better. Where Ryan kind of stayed the same.Devin Haney via DAZN
As such, during the interview with Haney, Haney acknowledged Garcia and his talent, which has existed since his amateur boxing days. However, Haney believes that he has improved far more than Garcia since they turned into professional boxers.
Furthermore, Haney had a sense of respect for his amateur boxing rival when he spoke about his skills and growth. However, Haney’s statement suggests that Haney believes he can easily defeat Garcia, even if they were equally matched during their amateur days.
Devin Haney claims that Ryan Garcia will quit
On April 20th, Haney will face off against Garcia for the 7th time in a squared circle. Furthermore, Haney will defend his new WBC super lightweight title for the first time. He acquired the title after his dominant victory over Regis Prograis on December 9, 2023.
