Ryan Garcia initially showed interest in fighting Devin Haney in a mega fight. However, later on, Ryan Garcia pulled back and wanted to fight Rolly Romero. This has left fans puzzled, and Team Devin Haney infuriated.
On being asked about his surprising shift in Ryan Garcia’s opponents, Eddie Hearn, who is Devin Haney’s promoter, said:
Weird, really weird. I mistakenly believed Ryan Garcia was a legacy guy who wanted to fight the top guys for the championship. But I can't blame him for what he's doing, he's taking the easy route to a championship.Eddie Hearn on Ryan Garcia no longer wanting to fight Devin Haney
Many people speculate that Garcia’s growing bond with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the reason behind the abrupt decision. Team Haney had also disrespected Mayweather recently. Some think Mayweather took offense to this and manipulated Garcia to change his mind.
Some fans are on Ryan Garica’s side as they feel Devin Haney would be too much on Garcia’s plate. Hence, it would be smarter to fight someone else before taking on Haney. Now it is all up for debate whether Ryan is smartly maneuvering his way to success or is just too much of a coward.
