Drake has been an avid fan of MMA and boxing over the years. Whether promoting through social media posts or attending events, Drake will shower his support immediately. Recently, younger boxer Shakur Stevenson seems to be his next favorite fighter.
Shakur Stevenson has recently made his return to the boxing scene. He was considered one of the world’s best super featherweight and lightweight boxers. All this was before his conviction of misdemeanor assault recently. He managed to get away with 50 months of probation. The boxing star was finally seen in attendance for the Devin Haney v Vasiliy Lomachenko fight in May. Stevenson will look to make his mark on the division by going after the top contenders like Haney, Lomachenko or Gervonta Davis.
Drake has shown his love for the returning fighter recently. Twitter Account ESPN Ringside posted pictures of the millionaire rapper meeting with the boxer. This is Shakur Stevenson’s 26th birthday. The boxer celebrated privately with his wife, rapper “young lyric,” and baby girl.
The guests seem to go into a frenzy when Drake entered the event in a celebratory mood. Fans seemed to be a bit wary of the linkup on Twitter. They seem to request Drake to stay away from Shakur because of the “Drake curse.” This is a running joke on social media where the fans believe that Drake causes the fighter he hangs out with to lose his next fight.
Shakur Stevenson has a chip on the shoulder in boxing despite such superstitions. The competition has increased tremendously in the relevant divisions, and the current top-tier boxers will not make it easy for Stevenson.
An old sparring video of Haney versus Stevenson revealed

The two American boxers have stirred up a rivalry recently. Devin Haney defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko in May earlier this year. Although the unanimous decision was questioned by many, Haney seems to have done enough to convince the judges. After the match ended, Haney found enough time to verbally exchange with the returning boxer “Sugar” Shakur Stevenson. Haney declared he was “Still no.1“, while Stevenson responded with “For now, bro”.
The two American boxers seem to have sparred before in an academy. Multiple Twitter accounts have posted the old sparring video. The two fighters seem evenly matched in their teenage years of boxing.
However, it does seem like this matchup will have to wait due to other reports. Devin Haney has contacted DAZN head Eddie Hearn for a fight in the super-lightweight division. On the other hand, Shaku Stevenson hopes to fight “tank” Davis to rake in some cash.
