‘Unlikely without Dana having control’- Eddie Hearn doubts the feasibility of the Tyson Fury fight despite Francis Ngannou’s refusal to re-sign
Dana White talks about Francis Ngannou's future in the UFC
Eddie Hearn took the time to visit the top MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani on his promotional tour for the upcoming Serrano vs Taylor bout at the MSG. Among other things, he expressed his admiration for Dana White and the UFC after recently being seen at their London event. The thing that got most ears listening was his opinion on how the Francis situation plays out.
Francis, who has been having contract disputes with the UFC has been eager for a big-money fight against current WBC Champion Tyson Fury. Hearn however believes the fight will not be an easy hurdle to clear. He expressed his interest in working with Dana to make the super fight happen despite his reservations as a Boxing Purist. However, he does not see Dana working with Bob Arum, Tyson’s current promoter.
Eddie Hearn believes Dillian Whyte will be a better fight for Francis than Tyson Fury due to his prior Kickboxing experience
Talking about Ngannou vs Fury, on The MacLife, he said, “I would be very surprised if Ngannou left the UFC, without Dana having some kind of control or say in it.” Hearn who has a positive relationship with the UFC Boss said he could see a fight between Francis and Dilian Whyte as a real possibility, owing to him being signed under Matchroom Boxing along with a 31-3 record in kickboxing.
Apart from future fights, Eddie Hearn also talked about his experience at UFC London and how he was pleasantly surprised by the pacing of the event. He also expressed his desire to build his brand like the UFC wherein the ‘fighters on the card don’t matter as long as the brand is coming to town.’
Francis has been reluctant to re-sign with the UFC without a clause in the contract that would allow him to box Tyson Fury. Currently, the UFC Heavyweight Champ is out of action due to a long-standing knee injury that required surgical repairs. On Dana White’s side, there’s been either silence regarding the situation with Francis or outright refusal towards a fight between the boxing and UFC heavyweight Champion.
