Canelo Alvarez is currently the biggest star in boxing and is also the Pound-for-Pound number one fighter in boxing. Oscar De La Hoya was Canelo’s former promoter and is the founder of Golden Boy Promotions. Both parted way after Canelo’s contract dispute with Golder Boy Promotions and DAZN.

Canelo’s current promoter is Eddie Hearn and Canelo has been rising in the world of boxing since he left Oscar’s promotion. Canelo currently holds the IBF, WBA, WBC, WBO, and The Ring Super middleweight title.

After winning these titles, Canelo made a bold move to move up a weight class and fight the WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol. The move, however, turned out to be a bad one for Canelo as Bivol outmatched Canelo in their boxing match and won the fight via unanimous decision.

Oscar accused Canelo’s promoter, Eddie Hearn of his loss. He said Hearn picked the worst possible matchup for him. He went on an absolute rant, and now Hearn has taken the time to respond to his criticism. Talking about it on The MMA Hour, he said, “Why do you want to criticize a guy? Of course, out of jealousy and the fact that they fell out, but why do you want to criticize a guy for trying to be great?”

He added, “You’re basically saying, ‘You shouldn’t have taken that fight because it was too difficult.’ What sort of sport do we live in where we’re criticizing fighters for taking a big challenge?”

He added, “He’s beaten everyone at middleweight. He’s beaten everyone at super middleweight. He wants to do something different, he wants to test himself. All of a sudden you get beat and, ‘It’s a terrible mistake. You shouldn’t have done it. You should have taken an easier fight in your weight division.’ Boring.”
