Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn over the past few days seems to be having a dispute with major boxing promoters from the USA. Hearn has been going back and forth with former multi-division champion and boxing promoter Oscar De La Hoya. Apart from De La Hoya, Hearn also believes that a good chunk of promoters are after him as well.
Mexican boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez recently cut ties with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing to sign a multi-fight deal with Premiere Boxing Champions. The deal will pay him over 100 million dollars and Canelo will earn a guaranteed purse of around $30 million for his fight against Jermall Charlo. Oscar De La Hoya, who previously managed Canelo Alvarez, mocked Eddie after his split with Canelo on Twitter. De La Hoya has previously also criticized Hearn’s recent boxing event as well.
After being mocked by De La Hoya, Hearn shot back and pointed out Oscar’s failing relationship with his fighters. “Yeah, he’s taking his eye off the ball. You know, he’s losing these fighters. I like Oscar, you know, I’ve got nothing against him. He’s a little bit crazy. I hope he can find some happiness. He’s one of my favorite fighters, but he seems to have this strange attraction to me where he talks about me all the time,” said Hearn in an interview.
Apart from De La Hoya, the Matchroom promoter has also taken shots at veteran promoter Bob Arum and Canelo Alvarez’s new promotions PBC. “They don’t want me here. We’re delivering great value for fights on DAZN. You know, for me it’s important to keep moving. Oscar De La Hoya, Bob Arum, PBC None of them want me here but I guess it’s flattering,” pointed out Hearn.
Eddie Hearn believes Nate Diaz is a mismatch for Jake Paul
Former UFC fighter and Stockton native Nate Diaz has an upcoming fight against the problem child Jake Paul. The fight takes place at American Airlines Center in Dallas on the 5th of August. Despite his history as one of the better boxers in UFC, Nate Diaz’s boxing skills are being heavily criticized. Even Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn is not sure about Nate’s odds of winning against Paul.
Eddie Hearn has been promoting boxing matches inside the ring for a very long time. He has promoted some big fights and even bigger fighters throughout his promotional career. The very least fight fans can be aware of is Hearn’s ability in picking out the better fighter. During his interview with sports journalist Ariel Helwani, The Matchroom Boxing promoter revealed why Nate’s bout against Jake Paul is a mismatch.
“I watched clips of Nate Diaz hit pads, I think I might’ve even told you, and I was like staring blankly, open-mouthed. You know that it’s going to be a mismatch against Jake Paul, don’t you?” said Hearn. Despite what Hearn thinks about Diaz, many fans believe that Nate will knock out Jake Paul.
