After his stunning victory over Otto Wallin last December, it’s safe to say that the two-time unified heavyweight champion proved his prowess. Furthermore, Anthony Joshua is expected to spend the early months of the year getting ready for a showdown with Deontay Wilder. However, instead, Joshua is set to start training for an explosive bout against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Initially, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, called Ngannou’s fight against Tyson Fury a gimmick fight, but he appears to have changed his mind.

This was mainly because Ngannou shocked the world in his boxing debut and almost won against the undefeated champion. Furthermore, Ngannou also made it one of the most lucrative and high-profile boxing debut fights in history. Subsequently, Anthony Joshua was slated to fight Wilder before he lost to Joseph Parker at the co-main event.

In addition, now that Ngannou and Joshua are set to fight, Hearn spoke about the bout on Matchrooom Boxing’s YouTube channel. Hearn stated:

Even though Joshua was supposed to fight Wilder, he will still be fighting an opponent with immense punching power. Furthermore, Hearn spoke about the fight and compared the two heavyweights to giants carved out of stone.

Hearn’s remarks reflect how Joshua and Ngannou have a muscular build for heavyweight boxers, unlike Tyson or Andry Ruiz. In addition, Hearn does not doubt Joshua’s capabilities but still calls the upcoming fight a dangerous and action-packed fight. Earlier, he was dismissive of dismissive of Ngannou’s chances completely but has since acknowledged his destructive power.

Hearn stated that he believes that AJ will become a three-time world champion in his career. Furthermore, he had predicted that Joshua could beat Wallin. Similarly, Hearn believes AJ can defeat Wilder or Fury, but right now he is solely focused on defeating Ngannou.

Subsequently, if Joshua manages to defeat Ngannou easily the way he did with Wallin, it means he dealt with two opponents that Fury struggled with. In addition, if Fury can defeat Oleksandr Usyk in their upcoming fight, then Joshua may face him in the future. Hearn believes the fight between Fury and Joshua is possible if both win their upcoming bouts.

Furthermore, Hearn believes that Joshua and undefeated heavyweight boxer Filip Hrgovic will be contenders for the title. Hence, if Joshua defeats Ngannou and Fury defeats Usyk, they might be slated to finally fight.
