Edgar Berlanga vs Alexis Angulo
Edgar Berlanga tried to pull a Mike Tyson with his mid fight bite against Alexis Angulo. Edgar and Alexis fought in a super middleweight bout at Madison Square Garden and Edgar defeated Alexis via a unanimous decision after the end of 10th round. However, during the seventh round of the fight, Edgar tried to bite Alexis on his shoulder and he even escaped referees vison while doing so.
Alexis surely reacted to the move, but the referee was unaware of the action and Edgar escaped without even getting a warning. After the fight, Edgar claimed he bit him in response to Alexis’ illegal elbows that he threw at Berlanga. Alexis talked about the incident in his post fight interview and said: “Nah, ‘cause he was throwing elbows. I was about to do a Mike Tyson on him. He kept throwing his elbows, and I didn’t want to get cut. I was ready to bite him like Mike Tyson.”
Edgar Berlanga’s action received a lot of media coverage and Berlanga’s tone during the post fight interview was criticized by the fans and boxing experts. Berlanga remained unapologetic during the fight and even in the post fight interview, but he finally posted an apology for his actions during the fight and said he was sorry for his actions during the fight and he is also sorry for his statement during the post fight interview.

‘Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield’- what inspired Edgar Berlanga to bite his opponent during the fight
Edgar Berlanga mentioned he bit Alexis Angulo after taking reference of Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson is one of the greatest boxers of all time, but his rematch with Evander Holyfield in 1997 is not known for his impressive performance but because of the infamous ear biting incident.
Mike Tyson fought Evander Holyfield for the second time on June 28, 1997 for the WBA Heavyweight Championship. Evander had defeated Mike in their first fight and caused a major upset, as he was an underdog entering the fight. During their second bout, Mike bit Evander’s ear twice and was disqualified from the match. Mike did this in retaliation for Evander’s headbutts.
While Mike suffered’d disqualification for his actions, Edgar Berlanga not only escaped referee’s vison but won the match via unanimous decision. Edar extended his undefeated streak and his professional record now stands at 20 wins and zero losses.
