Both fighters were cautious and did not attempt to get into any risky exchanges. Hence, they kept maintaining their distance, which allowed Stevenson to win the bout with just his jabs. It was clear that Stevenson was trying to outbox Santos, but Santos also reaffirmed his aggressive charge towards Stevenson.

As the rounds progressed, the American was slightly landing more blows compared to Santos.

Furthermore, Santos was still wary of overextending himself and leaving himself vulnerable to counterpunches. Around the sixth round, it looked like Stevenson was way ahead in points in the fight. However, the boos from the crowd were getting louder because of the lack of action between the fighters.
