Boxers Devin Haney and Regis Prograis will meet in a super lightweight blockbuster on Saturday, Dec. 9th. They will fight at the Chase Center in San Francisco, California. San Francisco’s own Haney looks to make history as a two-division world champion in the Matchroom Boxing bout. He faces WBC super lightweight king Prograis. The fight falls under the DAZN pay-per-view banner.
Haney vs. Prograis is the first boxing event at the world-class Chase Center in San Francisco. The venue opened up in 2019. The event is to be star-studded. Haney is looking to bank a whopping $6 Million US for the tournament. Fans have reacted badly to the proposal, claiming it as an overpay.
Ahead of Haney’s hyped clash, talkSPORT’s boxing editor Michael Benson recently confirmed the 24-year-old’s $6 Million purse. Fans have recoiled at the proposition afterward. Some have mentioned that this amount is substantially more than Conor McGregor ever made (which is not factually true). Others have pointed out that Haney sold only 1,50,000 Pay-per-view buy-ins in his last outing and didn’t warrant millions.
Bill Haney, Devin’s father and trainer, expects a sharp, strong Haney at 140 pounds. He also expects an excellent defensive game, being a two-time champion with raw KO power. Haney, at 30-0 and 15 KOs, became undisputed after beating George Kambosos Jr. in Australia in June 2022. He has successfully defended his crown twice since.
Fans react to Devin Haney’s bloated purse for December bout against Regis Prograis
Devin Haney has disclosed that he will earn $6 million (£4.8 million) for his next fight. Haney has, conversely, already become the undisputed WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO lightweight world champion. He is also known for his lavish ways and frivolous callouts. But now he moves up in weight to challenge Regis Prograis for his WBC super lightweight title on Dec. 9th.
Following the MMA promotion’s recently leaked fighter payouts, one reaction said it was more than Conor McGregor’s. While not entirely true, the sentiment still holds. As such, many fan reactions have poured in. Most of which are less than supportive. Check out some of the fan reactions:
Most fans have settled on believing this payout has been blown out of proportion. Some reactions, however, have pointed out that this is a much-deserved payout. Others have justified that it is at par with standard boxing crossovers.
