The female boxing sensation Claressa Shields remains the most dominant female boxer of all time. Recently, she called out Keith Thurman for a fight inside the squared circle. It all started during a bunch of Twitter replies. Shields claimed she would fight Thurman at 154 lbs and outbox him. However, it appears that Shields has started her training camp after posting a story on Instagram.
Claressa Shields wrote, “In Camp Getting Ready for @KEITHONTIMETHURMAN.” If the bout gets sanctioned, it would be the biggest inter-gender bout in boxing history. Claressa is the biggest name in female boxing, and the gimmick of the bout will bring many viewers to the contest. If any female boxer can defeat a male boxer, it would be Claressa Shields.
Shields is a former two-time Olympic gold medalist and has won titles in three weight classes. She is also the undisputed light middleweight champion and previously held the undisputed middleweight title. Shields also competes in MMA with a 1-1 record inside the cage. This year, she defeated Maricela Cornejo to retain her titles.
On the other hand, Keith Thurman is a former unified welterweight champion. He has only one loss on his record, which came against Manny Pacquiao in 2019. Thurman has only fought once since 2022, which resulted in a win for him. He has his mind on winning the undisputed welterweight title from Terence Crawford but could fight Claressa Shields before finding his way to a title shot.
Fans react to the possible bout between Claressa Shields and Keith Thurman
A fight announcement between Claressa Shields and Keith Thurman could shock the world. A high-profile intergender boxing matchup has never taken place. It does not look like a boxing commission would sanction the bout. Nevertheless, fans on Twitter went on to think of the various outcomes of a potential bout.
Some thought the bout would not go to the judges’ scorecard. Others pointed out the difference between male biology and female biology to state that Claressa does not stand a chance. One individual predicted that Thurman would lose in four rounds. Only time will tell if the intergender bout happens or not.
