Shakur Steveson was supposed to fight Frank Martin, but he is now set to fight Edwin De Los Santos instead.

Shakur Stevenson and Frank Martin were set to compete for the WBC lightweight championship on November 16. Furthermore, Martin’s camp stated that they called off the fight before it could happen, citing issues with the purse negotiations.

According to Mike Coppinger of ESPN, Stevenson will fight Edwin De Los Santos on the same date. In an interview with Coppinger, Evan Korn stated, “Shakur Stevenson is willing to fight anybody in and around his weight class.” Furthermore, Coppinger stated, “The bout will headline a Top Rank Boxing on ESPN card on Thursday. Three days before Formula 1 debuts in Vegas.”

Stevenson has made a name for himself in boxing at only 26 years old. Furthermore, he has the potential to become a huge star in boxing. Stevenson could become the face of boxing in a few years. Shakur remains undefeated in his last 20 fights, and 10 came via knockout.

Edwin De La Santos is a powerful knockout artist who recently won by TKO in the third round against Jose Valenzuela. Furthermore, he also won by unanimous decision in July over Joseph Adorno. In addition, Santos is a Dominican Republic native with a 16-1 record with 14 KO victories.

Fans had waited eagerly for Shakur Stevenson to fight Martin on November 16th and were disappointed when it was canceled. Subsequently, after the recent announcement, the hype has returned, and most fans are praying that this fight moves ahead as planned. Check out some of the fan reactions:

Furthermore, the fight may not seem very important since both fighters will fight for a vacant belt. However, the matchup between Stevenson and Santos will be interesting to witness inside the ring. Stevenson has aimed to fight Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney in future blockbuster bouts.
