Boxing fans and experts are getting tired of waiting for Canelo Alvarez to finally fight David Benavidez. However, the matchup doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon, even though Benavidez is a mandatory challenger for Alvarez. Hence, Alvarez’s avoidance of Benavidez has received a lot of criticism, and Floyd Mayweather joins in the same.

Benavidez currently holds the WBC super-middleweight title, while Alvarez holds the rest of the titles in the division. Hence, a clash between the two Mexican boxing stars is what the fans wish to see. However, Alvarez has shown no sign of wanting to fight the undefeated champion, Benavidez. While speaking about this, Floyd Mayweather stated:

If it was up to me, we want to see Benavidez. Canelo's a hell of a fighter, but in my personal opinion, he's ducking David Benavidez.

Furthermore, Mayweather stated that everybody wants to see the fight between Alvarez and Benavidez.

Hence, while Mayweather and several other people have stated this, the fight between them has not come to an end. In addition, Alvarez is in talks about fighting Jermall Charlo after defeating his twin brother, Jermell Charlo, in his last fight.

Canelo Alvarez responds to accusations of ducking David Benavidez

The world of boxing has been waiting for the Alvarez vs. Benavidez fight for quite some time now. The Mexican ‘Monster’ Benavidez has been one of the loudest proponents of the fight, and he has even stated that beating Alvarez would make him a legend. This has further perpetuated the excitement for fans to witness this bout.

Subsequently, the demands of the fans have translated into accusations of Alvarez avoiding the fight. Alvarez has responded to these allegations by saying that he always finds himself in this situation. Furthermore, Alvarez stated that even if Benavidez fights and wins, the boxing community will make similar accusations in the future.

Hence, Alvarez is trying to maintain the stance that regardless of who he fights, the boxing community will demand the next one. As such, this reflects that Alvarez does not want to prove himself and does not feel the need to. In addition, Alvarez believes that even if he defeats Benavidez, it will be to no avail.
