The legacy is finally complete as undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been given his dues for his contribution as one of the best defensive boxers in history. Mayweather competed from 1996 to 2017 and managed to go 50-0 with 27 wins via knockout. Mayweather managed to win 15 major championships from featherweight to light-middleweight. Ring belts in 5 weight classes and lineal championships in 4 weight classes, Mayweather is a one-of-a-kind talent that is hard to replicate in the coming time.
Mayweather’s legacy will stand the test of time very strongly, but the credits in boxing should go to not just the fighter, but the coach as well. Mayweather was born in a family of boxers and the forefathers made sure that this fighter was the best ever of their blood, one of those forefathers is Mayweather’s father Floyd Mayweather Sr., and Mayweather’s uncle, late great Roger Mayweather. Mayweather is now inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in the class of 2022 alongside the likes of Holly Holm, Roy Jones Jr., and more legends.
Floyd Mayweather Jr quotes Bernard Hopkins’ words to add power to his tribute to his father
In his speech during his Hall of Fame induction, Mayweather talked elaborately about his career and therefore laid out the names of people behind his success, one of them was his own father Floyd Mayweather Sr.
Mayweather said “I done a lot in my career, but this by far the best. I want to thank the International Boxing Hall of Famer for giving me this. This right here is going to my dad because he deserves it. Bernard Hopkins said it best, ‘You’ve got to earn it,’ and my dad earned this ring.”
What do you make of Mayweather’s tribute to his father? Where do you put Mayweather amongst the greatest boxers of all time? In his prime, Mayweather had wins over the likes of UFC megastar Conor McGregor, Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Arturo Gatti and many more. Mayweather is still making huge money out of the sport of boxing as he did throughout his professional career through exhibition bouts.
