Former UFC fighter, Chris Avila, expresses interest in fighting on the same card as Jake Paul
Chris Avila & Chad Ochocinco
Jake Paul is a celebrity boxer who has earned enough respect in the sport to be called a professional boxer at this point in his career. He has gained a lot of respect in the boxing scene after defeating former MMA legends like Ben Askren and Tryon Woodly. According to certain reports, Chavez Jr. could be Jake Paul’s next opponent. Although his opponent is not yet official yet it is set to take on Aug 13, 2022. For the same Chris Avila is set to make a comeback under the undercard of Jake Paul’s next fight.
In January of 2022, Chris Avila, a UFC and Bellator veteran, stated that he has no plans to retire from mixed martial arts, but he hopes that the boxing world will start paying more attention to his and the other fighters’ efforts in the ring.
In an interview, he was asked about the same to which he stated,
“We have real boxers. We train with high-level boxers. It’s nothing new to me. It felt good to go out there and show that I was the show. I bring the show. There’s no doubting that now that everyone saw what they saw. Just showed the level that I’m on is a lot higher than these guys that are getting the attention and these big fights.”
Chris Avila, an ex-UFC fighter, criticizes Chad Ochocinco and calls him out for a boxing match
Chad Johnson’s boxing debut went off without a hitch until midway through the fourth round, when he was knocked out by a powerful right hook from Brian Maxwell. Nevertheless, he looked good. Now that another household name in sports has emerged in the sport of boxing, fighters are quick to jump on the bandwagon to call him out. Recently, Chris Avila, an ex-UFC fighter, tells TMZ Sports that he’d gladly shake hands with the former NFL player and that he’s hoping for a fight with him this summer.
He stated he wishes to fight the retired NFL player on Jake Paul’s undercard as it will be one of the biggest cards of the year.
In the interview, he stated, “I think that’d be an exciting fight for people to watch. If he wants to fight a real fighter, he can box me.” Taking a subtle dig at his previous bout.
“I don’t know if he’d accept it — or maybe he wants to stick to fighting celebrities, But if he’s down to test his boxing skills, I’m down to fight him. I’m knocking his ass out.”
These are fighting words from the legit fighter himself. While Chad, although is a top-level athlete, is not a legit boxer or an MMA fighter. A fight between these two would be highly unlikely due to the discrepancies in their credentials. Yet one can never predict these things in combat sports. One can only sit back and watch the cards unfold.
