Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou surprised everyone in Saudi Arabia with his performance. He even knocked out the WBC heavyweight champion in the third round. But this wasn’t enough to veer a win towards Ngannou. Tyson Fury won with a narrow split decision. While everyone was caught by surprise at Ngannou’s capabilities, they were more so by the win going to decision.

Specially because Fury had attempted an illegal elbow on the opponent, during the matchup. Talking to social media a few days after the fight, Ngannou claimed that everyone involved in the contest was against him, even invoking the illegal elbow that Fury managed to land in the sixth round. Writing on X, he said:

Last Saturday I was a lion fighting a pack of hyenas - Tyson Fury, the referee for allowing an illegal elbow, and the judges for their score cards. #FuryNgannou

Taking to X, again, on Wednesday, Ngannou wrote:

I watched the elbow video tens of times and I don't understand why the referee didn't take a point from him

Despite the loss, Ngannou has quickly become one of the biggest names in boxing’s heavyweight division and is now being linked to fights against two former world champions, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. Wilder himself, along with other peers, has elevated the effort by Ngannou.

Fury, on the other hand, has taken a sabbatical from the combat sports altogether. His next bout is with Oleksandr Usyk. But the boxer has postponed the matchup amidst the rigor of his latest one. Fury has also declared Ngannou to be better than a lot of his other opponents over the years.

Francis Ngannou reverts to leg-sweeping advice, against Tyson Fury

Ex-UFC champion Francis Ngannou made his pro-Boxing debut, in Riyadh, on Oct.28. In a surprising turn of events, Ngannou managed to dominate Fury for a good while. He even knocked Fury down one time, which left the latter dazed and with a black left eye socket. But this wasn’t enough and the decision went to Fury anyway.

Going into the bout, “The Notorious” Conor McGregor had advised Ngannou on fighting Fury. He had said to use Fury’s build against him and kick his legs. This, McGregor revealed later. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) Ngannou said that he should have followed through, in light of the elbow shot.

The MMA fighter has also vented his frustrations against the scoring of the bout. This is not a secluded sentiment shared by Ngannou alone. Many fans have also unequivocally expressed that Fury should have been disqualified after his controversial elbow move.
