Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury finally duked it out this previous weekend. Tyson Fury gained the upper hand after the bout was declared a split decision in his favor. Francis Ngannou, who comes from primarily an MMA background, was trained by the legendary Mike Tyson. His fellow MMA fighters had various pieces of advice for him, as this fight was his boxing debut. Conor McGregor’s advice though, was a bit unconventional, to say the least.

Before his fight against Tyson Fury, Francis Ngannou remarked that he should have taken Conor McGregor‘s advice more seriously. Conor had recently said in an interview, “I’d say kick the leg!”  As such, This is what Ngannou had to say post-fight:

He was right I should've kick his fk legs, I can't believe that that he elbowed me.

This remark from Francis Ngannou comes after Tyson Fury elbowed him in the face. This is against the rules and is counted as an illegal shot. However, no point was deducted and the fight continued. Francis ate that elbow and did not seem to be fazed by it. Still, this illegal elbow did not sit well with athletes and fight fans alike, as they took to social media to voice their displeasure.

Ngannou’s appreciation of McGregor’s counsel brought levity to the situation. This demonstrated his sportsmanship and ability to skillfully and gracefully manage the high-stress situations that arise in professional boxing. This exchange of dialogue demonstrated the friendship and humor that exist within the combat sports community.
