Before former UFC heavyweight champion, Francis Ngannou fought Tyson Fury, many people considered the matchup a mistake. This was mainly because Fury was the undefeated WBC champion, while it was Ngannou’s professional boxing debut. Hence, many people, like Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua, called it a gimmick fight at the time. However, this changed after Ngannou’s stellar performance against Fury, which shocked the world.
Furthermore, Joshua was supposed to fight Deontay Wilder after the ‘Day of Reckoning’ event, but Wilder unexpectedly lost against Joseph Parker. This caused Joshua and his team to instead secure Ngannou as the opponent for his next fight, ironically. In addition, during their recent face-off, Joshua stated that he doesn’t consider his fight with Ngannou a ‘gimmick fight.’ Subsequently, Ngannou responded, stating:
It’s the gimmick fight. I think it’s very funny because. I mean this a crossover, it’s my second fight. My second pro fight and then, I’m taking on two of the top three heavyweight boxers.Francis Ngannou via DAZN
Hence, while Joshua calls his fight against Ngannou one of the biggest challenges of his life, Ngannou doesn’t share the same sentiment. Furthermore, Ngannou hilariously called this fight a gimmick fight because of Joshua’s comment about his first fight.
In addition, Ngannou stated that it is a gimmick fight considering he is fighting two of the greatest heavyweights in his generation in his first two fights. Hence, Ngannou casually fired back at Joshua for his previous comments about Ngannou’s fight.
PPV broadcasting details for the Joshua vs. Ngannou fight
The DAZN boxing face-off video has been released, but that wasn’t the only news to come out about Joshua’s fight. As such, Matchroom Boxing has confirmed that the heavyweight showdown will take place on March 8 and announced the broadcasting details. Subsequently, people from the U.S.A. will be able to watch the heavyweight bout live via DAZN Pay-Per-View.
That’s no surprise, considering Joshua’s long-standing partnership with the streaming platform. Furthermore, the broadcasting details for the UK were also revealed, as was the fight. As such, the fight will be streamed live on both DAZN and TNT Sports Pay-per-View, and fans will also be able to access the fight via either.
However, fans of the heavyweight clash should keep in mind that there is much more to come next month. Furthermore, Zhilei Zhang and Parker are also currently scheduled to serve as co-main events on the card.
