Francis Ngannou‘s Superman punch nearly ended Tyson Fury‘s undefeated streak in a thrilling boxing match in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia The punch was inches from knocking out the renowned boxer as the final seconds ticked away. In the end, Fury remained undefeated. However, Ngannou’s performance showcased his mettle.

The fight drew a star-studded audience. Notably, celebrities such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Israel Adesanya, Kamaru Usman, Manny Pacquiao, Oleksandr Usyk, and Conor McGregor graced the event. Furthermore, Ngannou’s corner boasted Erick Nicksick, Dewey Cooper, and boxing legend Mike Tyson. In the end, Fury won via split decision with the scorecards reading 96-93, 95-94, and 94-95.

The fight was closer than many expected with Ngannou even dropping Fury in round 3. It needs to be noted that Ngannou won at least 4 rounds out of 10 on two judges’ scorecards. It is a big achievement considering the fact that Fury has two TKO victories over former WBC champion, “The Bronze Bomber”, Deontay Wilder. Many were impressed by Ngannou’s performance whereas others felt that Fury took Ngannou lightly and paid the price.

In the aftermath of the victory, Fury credited Ngannou for giving one of his toughest fights in 10 years. Fury’s upcoming opponent, Oleksandr Usyk was present at the venue. When asked what he thought, Usyk discredited it as a show and not boxing. He did not respond to whether this performance made him confident of his chances in their bout set for December.

The Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou crossover bout broke all expectations. Nobody expected Ngannou to take Fury to a decision. The fact that one of the judges scored the fight for Ngannou is even more impressive. The highlight of the fight was Ngannou scoring a knockdown in the third round. Ngannou could have shocked the world if he had landed the Superman punch he threw on the 10th and final round.

In the aftermath of the loss, Ngannou remained proud. He even admitted that he was not sure of boxing before but is comfortable now. Moreover, he also insinuated his interest in boxing other big names in professional boxing. It remains to be seen whether the world gets to see Ngannou clash with the likes of Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua, and Oleksandr Usyk.
