Boxers generally emphasize good footwork because it is crucial to their overall performance. Hence, a boxer’s footwork can become a key component of their style and strategy in the ring. Similarly, boxing legend Roberto Duran once personally gave Regis Prograis golden tips and points about good footwork. However, Prograis could not use Duran’s advice and ultimately lost to Devin Haney.
Duran is a retired Panamanian professional boxer widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers ever. Subsequently, before his fight with Haney, Prograis met his favorite boxing icon, Duran, and had a wholesome interaction with him. Furthermore, Duran and Regis Prograis even had a casual but intense face-off and did some drills with the legend. In addition, Duran even took time to give Progais some criticism and tips for his footwork.
Effective footwork allows a boxer to move around the ring efficiently, maintain balance, and set up offensive and defensive maneuvers. Hence, Duran’s footwork was a crucial component of his success, and he used it to succeed in multiple weight classes. Furthermore, Duran was known for his agile and fluid footwork and moved gracefully around the ring.
Subsequently, this allowed him to cut angles, evade punches, and deliver combinations effectively. While known for his offensive prowess, Duran’s footwork also contributed to his defensive capabilities. Though Prograis is a two-time world champion and a great boxer, he had much to learn from the legendary champion.

In addition, Prograis broke Edwin De Los Santos‘ record for the least number of punches thrown while fighting Shakur Stevenson, which was 40. Subsequently, Prograis only managed to land 36, mainly because of footwork. Boxers like Gervonta Davis have called out Prograis for his bad footwork, and it was evident in his last fight.
