Gervonta Davis and Rolly Romero fought each other on May 28, 2022, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Gervonta was defending his WBA lightweight title against Rolly, who was the No. 1 ranked contender. The buildup to the fight was intense, and every form of trash talk and offensive comments were used by both sides. Both fighters were undefeated and entered the ring to maintain their undefeated status.

As both fighters were ready to fight on Saturday, everyone expected fireworks from each side. Gervonta and Rolly showed their technical skills. However, Gervonta soon took control of the fight. The fight went on 6 rounds and was a very close one. In the 6th round, Gervonta landed a counter straight left hand that sent Rolly into the ropes. The fight was stopped by the referee and Gervonta Davis won the fight.

During the Fight, Davis was engaged in a word war with Romero’s corner and Davis can be seen shutting up Romero’s corner after the knockout in the 6th round. In the 6th round, Rolly’s coach was shouting at Romero and said: “Box him Rolly, you can outbox Tank.” Davis was fed up by the comments and replied: “Shut yo b**ch a*s up.”

After Gervonta’s victory against Rolly Romero on Saturday, many believe he has the potential to become the best lightweight boxer in the world. Gervonta is ranked 10th in the Pound-for-pound rankings and is ranked the third-best lightweight by ESPN.

While many believe the fight between Davis and Romero was a close one. Gervonta has revealed what would have happened if the referee didn’t stop the fight in the 6th round. Davis, in his tweet after the fight, gave his opinion about the match going further than the 6th round and he believes Rolly would have been in a worse condition than he was when the fight stopped. Davis wrote: “The ref knew if he would’ve let Rollie back out there to fight he was leaving out on a stretcher.. facts”

After the victory, Gervonta Davis has extended his professional record to 27 wins and 0 losses and has even defended his WBA lightweight belt. Davis has an undefeated record and has won 25 of his 27 matches via knockout. After this win, Gervonta looks for another opponent to defend his title and many fighters like Ryan Garcia have even called him out already.
