Calvin Ford is famous for being the boxing trainer of Gervonta Davis. He has lately come into felony problems. The police arrested Ford in Baltimore in late December, stemming from an incident in Las Vegas. He is accused of 2 counts of assault with a lethal weapon. However, the incidents leading up to this remain unclear. Moreover, the information about the Las Vegas incident remains undisclosed.
Davis recently converted to Islam and has adopted the new name Abdul Wahid. In the past, Davis also spent time in jail, as did other prominent boxers. This made one fan comment, “All these American boxers/trainers love police cell.”
Ford is credited with shaping the careers of Baltimore youths, along with Gervonta Davis, into top athletes. Ford’s rise to prominence within the countrywide boxing scene started in the 1990s, following a prison stint for racketeering and conspiracy convictions. His life story even partly inspired the role of Dennis “Cutty” Wise in the HBO television series The Wire.
Ford, 58, was apprehended with the aid of Baltimore police as he was exiting the Upton gymnasium where he trains. Moreover, the arrest warrant was issued with the aid of Nevada authorities on October 16. Hence, Ford awaits transfer to Nevada, held without bail in Baltimore.
