Shots were heard outside the Barclays Center shortly after Gervonta Davis' knockout of Rolando Romero

Gervonta Davis and Rolando Romero put up a great night of boxing at the Barclays Center in New York but what followed ruined the nights of thousands of fans after what was only supposed to be a good weekend outing. Reportedly there were gun shots heard outside the arena, causing a lockdown right as fans were about to leave the site, causing a complete lockdown.

While the events are still developing with a clear description of the entire ordeal yet to come out, what is believed to have happened is that the lockdown was called in the arena, due to the shots heard outside the Barclays , set in a panic within the arena with many people believing it was an active shooter situation. This eventually led to a stampede although no injuries have yet been reported.

This comes at the helm of a week when America had to take a deep look at its gun culture, as the events at the Robb Elementary School in texas that left 19 children and two teachers dead have shaken the country.

Shots were heard outside the iconic Barclays center with a gunman reportedly being spotted in the main plaza.

While the incident was only reported by social media, a confirmation the New York Police Department about a shooting at or near the Barclays is yet to be seen.

Chris Mannix, a senior reporter for DAZN, who was in attendance reported on the events, initially reporting of hearing shots within the arena

Although he clarified later that the shots were coming from the outside

Tennis sensation, Naomi Osaka was in the crowd and described the entire experience to have left her “petrified” while she prayed for everyone to be safe.

Footage from the arena shows fans running around aimlessly as the crowd was put on lockdown, desperately looking for cover before things went south. Luckily no shooter was present inside the arena, leading to order being restored shortly after the situation was thoroughly assessed.

Mike Coppinger of ESPN reported a dozen injuries caused by the stampede but none of them were reportedly fatal

Gervonta Davis won the fight via a 6th Round Knock out in a fight where he was down on the scorecards.
