“Amateur A**hole” Hasim Rahman Jr reveals how initial Jake Paul sparring got intense

Jake and Hasim will main event at the MSG

Hasim Rahman Jr has the opportunity of a lifetime against Jake Paul to make his name ring forever in the world of boxing if he manages to free the sport from the tainted 5 fight win streak of the YouTuber. Chosen as a last-minute replacement, Hasim is the son of a former Heavyweight Champion and has also previously been a training partner for Jake Paul before the Nate Robinson fight.

Rahman Jr came into the picture a few days after Tommy Fury was denied access to the USA late last month, due to his stable’s links to the Kinahan Cartel. This meant the fight between the two pretty boys was called off a second time, to salvage what was left of the event, hardly 3 days after Tommy’s initial announcement, Rahman was already gearing up to lace up the gloves.

When the opportunity came knocking, Hasim took it without hesitating. The one reason Paul was confident in his abilities is that he believed his showing in sparring against Rahman was enough proof that he could beat the professional boxer. However, from Rahman’s vantage point, it was completely different.

Talking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour Podcast, Hasim described the initial days of sparring against Jake Paul. Hasim would describe his first impression of Jake to be “Very Hollywood” saying, “when people have that kind of following, they tend to be that way so, that’s fine. “

During their second meet initially the two were cool with each other, that was until the end of the sparring session, when Jake started getting on the turnbuckles to celebrate his ‘victory“He’s like ‘And Still’ and just being basically like an amateur a**hole and that’s when I started saying come in, the part that you see in the video” said Hasim, providing context for the infamous sparring footage between the two that Jake released a few fights ago.

“To Jake, sparring’s like a fight, obviously he has no amateur experience so if he’s doing well against a professional he’s thinking, ‘Oh I can really do this’ sparring sessions are like Jake’s fights” said Rahman describing how Jake’s naivety was more annoyance than anything else.
“I was trying to humble him a little bit and tell him, I’m in here handicapped bro, I rarely use my right hand, I’m only giving you one hand, it’s really not what you’re hyping it to be” said the professional boxer about Jake’s training session antics. Hasim fully expected Jake to cut up the videos in order for him to look good.
