Mike Tyson can be considered the most dominant and brutal heavyweight boxer in the history of mankind. Tyson was a force of nature, honed by Cus D’Amato to become the indestructible weapon inside the squared circle.

However, outside the ring, Tyson’s career was full of several controversies. In the 80s, Tyson met Don King who was one of the most prominent boxing promoters back then. King has promoted some of the biggest names in boxing, including Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, Larry Holmes, Tomasz Adamek, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield etc.

King was a disputed figure himself and was accused of a manslaughter conviction, fraud treatment with several boxers, etc. King was also charged with killings and in 1967 served three years in prison for beating one of his employees to death.

King made a lot of money promoting “The Iron” but things got out of hand when in 1998, Tyson accused the king of frauding. According to Tyson, King stole a lot of money from the fighter. Tyson then filed a lawsuit of 100 million dollars against Don King and got only $13 million as settlement money. During those days, the relationship between King and Tyson was extremely hostile and it also led to a physical altercation.

Years after, Tyson still has not forgiven King for his deeds in the past. In a recent episode of his podcast, ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, the fighter revealed why he beat King on his head.

We’re driving (on the freeway) and next thing I know I freaked out and I kicked the guy (Don King’s driver). I kicked him in the back of the head he puts on the brakes. As soon as we stop, I’m beating him in the car (Don in the front seat). I’m trying to get the girl in the front seat to hold him so I can get him in the front seat so he can’t run because I couldn’t (hit) him the way I wanted to. As soon as I let him go he got out of the car. No, no, I tried to run across and he did a little back turn and got back in the front — drove off and left me on the highway.

It seems like Tyson was extremely angry and frustrated with King for his cheating. Tyson thought King was his real friend and it didn’t turn out that way.

Since his boxing days, Mike Tyson has changed drastically and now he is just an individual who has experienced everything in his life. Regardless, of everything, Tyson is still one of the most inspirational characters in the world.
