“Unprofessional Fighters” Jake Paul and Nate Diaz’s fight gains new buzz as Oscar De La Hoya proposes to act as a promoter
Diaz and Paul have both been a menace to Dana White throughout the past year
Jake Paul’s most recent fight falling out might have been the best outcome for one Nate Diaz. Former boxing world champion, Oscar DeLaHoya was quick to notice that there was a spot open to Golden Boy to get into the Jake Paul business and he jumped on that opportunity.
Paul was scheduled to face Hasim Rahman Jr, at the MSG on August 6th. Rahman himself was a last-minute replacement for Tommy Fury, who had to drop out of the fight due to travel restrictions. On signing the contract, Hasim was stipulated that the fight would only place at 200 lbs unless he wished to lose his purse.
Yesterday, MVP promotions announced that Rahman had in fact failed to comply with his contractual agreements and would only agree to fight at 215 lbs. While Rahman would say he deserves the week before the fight to get as low as he could, Paul’s camp was unwilling to risk their fighter’s record at a weight he’s never fought before.
Oscar De La Hoya offers to set up Nate Diaz vs Jake Paul boxing match
The novelty with Jake Paul fights is that you either are a huge fan of him and ardently follow every move he makes or you’re a purist who might not agree with what he’s doing to the sport and wants to see him knocked out. Many believe that once he loses, the big paydays will stop coming and he’ll be left to become just another unranked boxer.
Hasim would’ve been the first boxer on Jake’s record, even more so he would’ve been the first opponent to have a reach advantage over Jake and also be around the same age. The possibility of a Rahman win wasn’t that far-fetched and if he were to beat Paul, all of Diaz’s plans would’ve gone to waste.
Diaz has hinted that he wishes to make a big-money fight against Jake Paul once he gets released by the UFC. Now the final obstacle on his way to gaining his freedom is a terrifying Chechen by the name of Khamzat Chimaev. Former Champion De La hoya was quick to capitalize on two big names in combat sports having to look for fights in the future.
On Twitter Oscar said, “Sorry for your cancellation due to unprofessional fighters not making weight. Let’s talk Jake Paul Vs Nate Diaz when he’s free from the ufc imagine the Golden Boy Boxing machine behind it? Will be huge!!!”
While it’s unlikely Jake ever works under the Golden Boy banner, Diaz could actually find good promotion partners within the organization. What do you think about Oscar’s involvement in this saga?
