Jermell Charlo will face legendary Mexican boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on September 30. However, Charlo appears to fire shots at the wrong opponent. He accused Terence Crawford of landing illegal blows during his fight with Errol Spence Jr. Crawford beat Spence on July 29 pay-per-view event billed as Undefeated, Undisputed, Unprecedented. Crawford became the undisputed welterweight champion with the win.
Jermell, who is the younger Charlo twin, is the current undisputed light middleweight champion. “I saw a bunch of behind-the-head shots during that fight,” said Charlo when asked about the undisputed welterweight title fight during the promotional event of Alvarez vs. Charlo. He was still adamant that Crawford was not as good as everyone thought. Charlo believed that Spence lost just because he had a bad night.
Charlo also pointed out that he didn’t see any adversity to overcome for Crawford throughout the fight. With Crawford hinting at fighting Alvarez at a catchweight and Charlo fighting Alvarez in late September, a fight between Crawford and Charlo is definitely on the cards. In his interview, Charlo blasted the media for remaining silent about the behind-the-head shots.
Charlo is a big underdog in his scheduled fight with Canelo Alvarez. Furthermore, Terence Crawford has told Joe Rogan that he wanted to fight the winner of Charlo versus Canelo. However, Alvarez has declined it citing the big difference between their natural weight classes.
Jermell Charlo blasts the media for doubting his chances against Canelo Alvarez
Jermell Charlo was upset at the media for giving him no chance of winning against Alvarez. He vowed to win the fight and was not bothered about what the media had to say. Charlo has a contentious relationship with the media. It was evident that he went off during the fight promotion event.
Charlo’s last two fights were against Brian Castano. The first fight ended in a split draw, and the second ended with Charlo winning via a 10th-round KO. His only loss is to Tony Harrison, whom he defeated in the rematch. He became the undisputed champion after knocking out Jeison Rosario in the 8th round of their bout.
Charlo is coming up two weight classes to face Alvarez, which is why the media is not giving him a chance to win. Moreover, he is fighting one of the greatest boxers in history. Hence, the media may be right about picking Canelo over Charlo.
