On May 7, 2005, Jose Luis Castillo and Diego Corrales engaged in a historic encounter that fans remember forever. The bout between the two boxers featured one of the most remarkable rounds ever witnessed in a boxing ring. Coach Joe Goossen became an important character in the bout held at the Golden Tower of Las Vegas’s glistening Mandalay Bay.
In the tenth round, Castillo rocked Corrales with a hard strike. The blow made Corrales spit out his mouthpiece and he needed to replace it. Once he went toward his trainer, Joe Goossen yelled, “You gotta f**kin’ get inside on him!” which signaled the greatest comeback in boxing history.
Castillo entered back into the bout and confidently backed up Corrales onto the edge. He landed a devastating punch that knocked him down to the canvas. The action in the round remains one of the most raw boxing sequences in history. The Mandalay Bay crowd was on edge as people opened their mouths, screamed, and reacted to each blow.
Corrales swung at Castillo’s head with a second hook, forcing him to the ropes again. Corrales landed six or seven straight shots that knocked Castillo down, and the referee, Tony Weeks, stepped in. Even after 18 years, most fans consider this match to be the greatest bout they have witnessed in their lifetime. Corrales’ first professional defeat came against Floyd Mayweather.

Boxing coach Joe Goossen trains some of the best boxers in the world. He has worked with some of the best boxers in the world and still coaches at an elite level. He recalled about the fight during a press meet.
Gossen stated that the tenth round arguably remains the best action round of the fight. Castillo stunned Corrales twice with devastating shots, sending him sprawling. Corrales miraculously managed to get back to his feet twice. He even bought a few moments by having his mouthpiece removed which became the turning point of the bout.
Castillo went for the kill once the bout started, but Corrales shocked him with an insane comeback. Joe Goossen played a vital part in that legendary fight. The boxing coach has trained some of the biggest stars, including Ryan Garcia.
