Combat sports have always fascinated both athletes and spectators alike. The thrill of seeing two individuals test their physical and mental limits in the ring or the octagon is undeniable. However, behind the glamour and excitement, there are hidden dangers that often go unnoticed. Similarly, in an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Daniel Cormier compared the dangers of MMA and boxing.
Combat sports, such as boxing, mixed martial arts, and kickboxing, have gained immense popularity in recent years. These sports showcase incredible athleticism, skill, and determination. Both boxing and mixed martial arts have different levels of head injury risk. According to Daniel Cormier, boxing is more dangerous because it has a 10-second count that allows fighters to keep fighting even after concussions.
Subsequently, Cormier stated:
I get up, and then you continue to punch me in the head until I either fall down again or we get to the end of the round where you come back and punch me in the head again.Daniel Cormier on JRE
In MMA, when a fighter is knocked out, the fight is over as soon as the opponent jumps on top of them. Furthermore, Cormier stated that in MMA, fights end if this happens, but in boxing, the fight goes on. Joe Rogan, on the other hand, does not agree and highlights cases such as Tyson Fury’s miraculous recovery after being knocked out by Deontay Wilder.
In the end, the debate highlights the different risks and recovery times of each sport. In addition, Rogan highlighted the different ways in which head injuries are treated and how they affect fighters’ safety.
Daniel Cormier believes he can beat Mike Tyson in a street fight
In the world of combat sports, there are a few names as legendary as Mike Tyson and Cormier. Both men have achieved incredible success in their respective disciplines, with Tyson dominating the boxing world in the 1980s. Subsequently, Cormier is a well-accomplished UFC fighter and has been a two-division champion in the UFC.
Furthermore, in a street fight, Cormier surprisingly believes he has what it takes to defeat the boxing icon. In an episode of ESPN MMA’s “DC & RC” with Ryan Clark, Cormier stated that he would have the upper hand. Subsequently, Cormier mentioned how he would wrestle anyone to the ground in a street fight.
Cormier stated that he could use anything else in a street fight but would never lay a finger on Tyson. Clark responded to Cormier’s claims by stating that he does have a chance, but Tyson is too scary. Furthermore, Clark mentioned how Tyson has been in several street fights and has a lot of experience.
