I got shot. The doctor told me I was never gonna walk again. I’m still here fighting, so I don’t play none of them excuses bullsh!t.
The back-and-forth trash talk between the two fighters became the focus of the conference, which was intended to promote the fight. Furthermore, Charlo started the exchange by boldly stating that he would beat both Benavidez and his brother inside the ring. Subsequently, Benavidez retaliated by bringing up how Charlo has been affected by his mental health for the last two years.
Furthermore, Benavidez stated that he was going to beat up Charlo in the ring on November 25. Charlo has also expressed his desire to fight Canelo Alvarez after his brother Jermell Charlo lost against him.
How did Jose Benavidez Jr. get shot in the leg?
Benavidez Jr. is a rising boxing star and the son of renowned combat sports trainer Jose Benavidez Sr. On August 23, 2016, Benavidez went for a stroll with his dog near the neighborhood of his house in Phoenix. This random, inconsequential walk with his dog before going to bed almost cost the professional boxer his career.
Subsequently, during his walk, a man with a gun caught him off guard and jumped him. Moreover, the man was able to shoot Benavidez in the right leg above his knee, which hit a main artery.
In addition, Benavidez was also shot in the pinky of his right hand and suffered an injury to his left leg after the altercation. Benavidez was able to reach his home and call an ambulance because of the adrenaline rush he was going through.
Benavidez had lost a lot of blood and could have lost his life. However, he reached the hospital safely, but the doctors told him to give up on his boxing career because he might not be able to walk.
