“Lowlifes like you destroyed the sport” Kamaru Usman responds to Stephen Espinoza’s criticism of Dana White
Kamaru Usman on Stephen Espinoza
Kamaru Usman has always been a company man, over his 15 fights in the UFC he has rarely ever been critical of the company, with him acknowledging he owes his success to the UFC and Dana White among others. Hence it was a no-brainer for him to defend his sport against one of MMA’s biggest and most blatant critics, Stephen Espinoza.
The Showtime Sports Head jumped into the fray during Kamaru Usman and Canelo Alvarez’s back and forth on Twitter. Espinoza claimed that Canelo opting not to face Usman was simply a matter of “professional self-determination” and not about “Not wanting the smoke” as Kamaru put it.
In the same tweet, he derogates MMA fighters as having the inability to grasp that concept owing to them being promoted by a “former kickboxing instructor” (Referring to Dana White’s initial stint as a Boxercise Coach before his days running the UFC)
“Take Notes From Dana”- Kamaru Usman suggests Stephen Espinoza learn matchmaking from Dana White
Kamaru was quick to respond to these claims. The Champ called boxing “A beautiful art” that consisted of some amazing athletes and “even a couple of good promoters.” Espinoza however doesn’t fit that bill according to the Champ. “The problem is lowlifes like you around the sport that destroyed it for everyone,” said Kamaru, slamming Espinoza’s matchmaking. ‘Take notes from what Dana has done’ advised the champion.
This was awfully similar to back when Espinoza gained infamy in the MMA community after being labeled “a weasel” by Conor McGregor back in 2016-17, and by “A little creep” by Dana White in 2020. The MMA community certainly has no lack of strong words aimed at this man.
Kamaru further went on to note that MMA fans always know who the best is as they fight the best instead of being gifted a “plastic belt “ for every ‘nobody’. The Welterweight Champion concluded by saying Espinoza should stay in his lane and “keep quiet the next time.”
He continued, “If you need lessons on how to save that dying sport let me know I’ve got Dana on speed dial” possibly hinting to contact him for the super-fight between an MMA Champion and a Boxing World Champion, for the amount of attention the last endeavor of this nature garnered.
