Daniel Dubois expressed dissatisfaction with the refereeing during his recent title fight against Oleksandr Usyk. In the ninth round of the fight, Dubois got knocked out, resulting in his loss. However, the fight had its controversial moments. In the fifth round, Dubois dropped Usyk with a body shot that was ruled illegal by referee Luis Pabon.

Pabon allowed Usyk extra time to recover, even though Usyk wanted to continue immediately. After the fight, Dubois and his team accused Pabon of foul play and claimed that his win was taken away from him.

“I didn’t think that was a low blow. I thought that landed, and I’ve been cheated out of victory tonight,” Dubois said during his post-fight interview. Frank Warren, the promoter of the fighter, sided with Dubois and mentioned, “This is a boxing match and it should be straight and it should be above board, and it was not above board. That was not a low blow. And how long did he get to recover? A couple of minutes? It’s nonsense. It’s total nonsense.”

According to Warren and Dubois, the shot was legal, and it was nowhere near being considered a low blow. Nevertheless, Dubois and his team are confident they can rectify what they believe was a significant victory unjustly taken away from them.
