Boxing legend Mike Tyson has always been a lover of pets. It is evidenced by the tigers he had during his boxing days, and also the numerous pigeons he took care of as a kid. Now, Tyson seems to have reignited his love for the birds, after he flew nearly 6,000 miles away from his home in Las Vegas with one goal in mind.
The story broke yesterday on the Instagram account Teamhypetalk, where the user posted three photos of Tyson and the breeder. It flaunted a caption that read:
Mike Tyson flew especially to Piątnica (near Łomża) to buy 100 pigeons from a local trader! No-one could have predicted such a turn of events.
This week, Tyson traveled to Poland to gather a pigeon colony. Piątnica Poduchowna, with a population of just 1,800, is located in the northeastern part of the country. But to acquire not one, but 100 pigeons, Tyson made the 5,748-mile journey from his home in Las Vegas. New pictures have emerged of Tyson posing with a local pigeon dealer while flaunting his trademark clenched fist.
Previously, Tyson had reflected on his relationship with the birds. He had mentioned that the birds were his escape from obesity and a harsh reality. Tyson had said that he always considered the birds a symbol of peacefulness.
Since then, the Mylomza.pl portal, which published more pictures of Tyson, seems to have verified the story. Several veterinarians were called to Piątnica to vaccinate the pigeons so they could be certified for export to the US, according to sources.

Raised in Brooklyn, Tyson found solace and purpose in taking care of pigeons, a hobby that helped him stay out of trouble as a teenager, and a harsh upbringing.
This love of birds continued throughout his life as he became known for raising and racing pigeons.
Tyson also revealed that he once knocked out a garbage man with a “gigantic right hand”. This came after he threw away a box containing what was left of Julius, his favorite pigeon. Once billed as the most dangerous man alive, Tyson took to safeguarding his passion very seriously.
