Boxing legend Mike Tyson has become a regular in the podcasting world and gained massive success as well. Tyson has a very open persona and is not scared of any challenges. He has gained a lot of viewers due to his podcast, “Hotboxin with Mike Tyson.” Tyson revealed a hilarious story in which his wife reminded Tyson how underdogs should not be criticized.

Iron Mike appeared on the Revolt podcast, revealing the story of his wife telling him that he should not undermine Rolly Romero in his fight against Gervonta Davis. Tyson said that he had analyzed Romero’s previous fights and didn’t see any quality that would help him score a victory over “Tank.” His wife brutally replied to his claim: “They didn’t think Buster Douglas was going to beat you!”.

She referred to Tyson’s controversial defeat handed to him by Buster Douglas in 1990. Both participants in the bout landed blows throughout the first exchanges. Douglas, though, caught Tyson off guard with a right hand in the eighth round. Despite Tyson’s best efforts, Buster Douglas persisted in landing blows. Tyson suffered his first-ever defeat when Douglas knocked him out in the tenth round with a left hook.

The fight was viewed as a major upset due to Tyson’s rising fame in boxing. Tyson was one of the most feared boxers of that era, known for his punching power and scary demeanor. Even though he lost, Tyson viewed the match as a lesson that helped him to win his future fights.

Tyson’s loss against Douglas was his first professional loss and a huge learning lesson. He was always the favorite going into a fight against Douglas, who was termed as the underdog. Even though his loss was controversial, Tyson blamed his lavish lifestyle and distractions during his camp as the reason.

Iron Mike also revealed that he started to earn more money after his loss to Douglas. He said, “I started getting paid more because now there is a chance that I could be beaten and get paid more money because people couldn’t bet on me. So it’s a possibility to get beat”. The fight was also a huge turning point in his life as it led to him focusing more on his training.

The upset took aback the boxing world. It was the first time an undefeated heavyweight champion had been knocked out in over 20 years. The fight also added to the promotion of Tyson. Before his loss, Tyson was viewed by the world as an unbeatable juggernaut, but his loss somewhat humanized him.
