Mike Tyson, the former heavyweight champion, has urged US President Joe Biden to make good on his promise. Furthermore, it is regarding granting amnesty to thousands of nonviolent marijuana offenders still locked up in federal prisons. Cannabis sales in the United States are expected to hit $40 billion per year. As such, campaigners have stated that over 2,000 people, mostly people of color, are serving time in federal prisons.

Subsequently, they remain convicted of a crime that is now essentially legal in nearly half of the country. In addition, over 30,000 people are still in state prisons, even though recreational cannabis is legal in 24 states. As such, in a letter to the President, Mike Tyson stated:

The war on marijuana is over, Mr. President, as seen in legalization efforts across the country and in polls showing that most Americans oppose marijuana prohibition.

The US President does not have the power to pardon all the convicted people, but he can enforce change. Hence, Tyson urged the President to pressure the state to look into the matter because Biden had promised to handle this issue during his election rally. In the letter, Tyson mentioned that Biden should issue a categorical clemency grant that will support federal warfare on non-violent marijuana offenses.

Before Tyson’s letter, Drake, Killer Mike, and several other musicians had also urged the President to do this. The main premise of this request is that it’s unjust for people convicted of marijuana use to serve the same time in prison as a murderer.

Mike Tyson’s marijuana business

Tyson’s involvement in the cannabis industry has been quite prominent. In recent years, Tyson has become an advocate for the medicinal and recreational use of marijuana. In addition, Tyson has also invested in the cannabis business, which has proven to be lucrative for him.

As such, in 2016, Tyson founded a company called Tyson Holistic Holdings. The company aimed to promote cannabis-related products, including premium marijuana strains, edibles, and merchandise. Furthermore, he has also been involved in the development of a cannabis resort called “Tyson Ranch,” located in California. “Iron Mike” also has a collaboration with Evander Holyfield called Mike Bites. They are edible marijuana-infused ear-shaped gummies marketed by using the famous incident where Tyson bit Evander Holyfield in their fight.

The ranch is intended to be a cannabis-friendly destination with facilities for cultivation, research, and consumption. Subsequently, Tyson has been open about his own experiences with marijuana, citing its potential benefits and advocating for its legalization.
