Buster Douglas and Michael Spinks are easily two of the greatest heavyweights of their generation. Both Douglas and Spinks were former ardent rivals of Mike Tyson when he was the undisputed heavyweight champion. Douglas retired from the sport in 1999, while Spinks retired in 1998. Surprisingly, the retired heavyweight veterans are set to make an unexpected comeback to the sport after almost 25 years of retirement.
Similarly, their rival Tyson also caused a frenzy with his fight announcement against influencer boxer Jake Paul at 57 years old. Thankfully, the fight between Douglas and Spinks is set to be an AI technology-based fight. The details are still muddy, especially since this will be the world’s first AI boxing match. As such, boxing journalist Michael Benson reported the news, stating:
Buster Douglas, 63, will face Michael Spinks, 67, in an "AI boxing match" this summer, 'Celebrity Boxing' founder Damon Feldman has announced.Michael Benson via X

Furthermore, Spinks and Buster Douglas recently appeared together to announce the unique fight and did a face-off. Celebrity Boxing’s founder revealed the fight on Instagram Story, in which he attempted to promote the fight and mentioned that they were making history with the first AI fight.
This concept is not unique since Roy Jones Jr. once fought in a metaverse boxing fight. During the fight, their movements were tracked and simulated like those of a character in a video game. Hence, the Douglas vs. Spinks AI boxing match might have a similar concept to that.
The legendary fights between Tyson, Douglas, and Spinks
Spinks first fought Tyson in 1998 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. At the time, Tyson held the WBA, WBC, and IBF heavyweight titles. Simultaneously, his opponent, Spinks, was the IBF and lineal heavyweight champion. The fight emitted a quick blaze after the first 91 seconds of round 1, with Spinks being knocked out.

Hence, this win cemented Tyson’s status as the best and most-feared heavyweight boxer of his time. Two years after this victory, Tyson faced the underdog heavyweight contender Douglas in Tokyo, Japan, in 1990. While it was expected that Tyson would emerge victorious, Douglas managed to instead pull off the biggest upset in boxing history.
As such, Douglas knocked Tyson down to the canvas in the tenth round with the latter unable to beat the referee’s count. Subsequently, this was Tyson’s first professional loss and marked the downfall of his legendary boxing career.
