Gervonta “Tank” Davis has been called out by top boxers, but he’s also been getting attention from MMA fighters now. The UFC’s newest superstar, Sean O’Malley, is calling out Davis and wants to fight him. Furthermore, O’Malley, at the post-fight press conference after his second-round KO at UFC 292 surprised everyone by calling out Davis.
In an interview with ES News, Davis’ trainer, Kenny Ellis, commented about O’Malley calling Tank out for a fight. Ellis said, “Tank gonna whoop his ass, in the first round. Any tiny lightweight would beat him, Tank, Shakur, Haney, all those guys would beat him cause they’re boxers.” MMA fans have been trolling Davis because of his trainer’s claim that Davis wouldn’t survive in the octagon.
Recently, more than 1.2 million PPV buys were reported for Davis’ fight against Ryan Garcia at T-Mobile Arena. Furthermore, the pair was able to pull in over $22 million at the box office after their fight. Similarly, O’Malley’s fight against Aljamain Sterling was also a huge success, drawing over $7 million in Boston. Furthermore, It was the highest-grossing PPV ever in divisional history, according to promoter Dana White. Hence, this potential match-up between Tank and Sugar would be a huge commercial success if done correctly.
O’Malley doesn’t have a vested interest in the sport of boxing, nor does he have a particular rivalry with Davis. However, he believes that his rival Chito Vera is currently the only viable contender in the bantamweight division for him. Furthermore, he stated that the octagon lacks star power in the bantamweight division.
Fans React to Gervonta Davis’s claim of knocking out Sean O’Malley in the first round

While most MMA fans trolled Davis, some boxing fans defended him saying the context of Tank Knocking out O’Malley was meant in a ring and not the octagon.
