Floyd Mayweather has invited Leigh Wood to defend his WBA featherweight world title against 17-year-old prospect Curmel Moton. Mayweather’s promotion represents Curmel Moton. Floyd Mayweather confirmed his ambition to match Curmel Moton, who has yet to make his professional boxing debut against current WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood in a recent interview with FightHype.
This showed Mayweather’s determination to set up the fight, despite Moton’s lack of professional boxing experience. Mayweather declared in a recent interview with FightHype, “Leigh Wood – I have a 126 lbs Curmel Moton that might be a nice match right now. He’s becoming a professional. We take risks in order to be exceptional. Eddie Hearn is a successful businessman, as am I. We’ll take the battle because our guy is 0-0. I’ll put up the entire sum for both sides. My kid is 17, and he’s destined to be amazing. Remember what I said?”
Leigh Wood responded that he was not interested in fighting a 17-year-old. However, he would like to take on Mayweather himself. He tweeted to Mayweather, “@FloydMayweather You’re closer to my age than your prospect is to me. I’ll give a few lbs away to dance with a great, you ever been to the city ground?”
Furthermore, he said he would come to an understanding of the weight requirements to fight the undefeated boxer. Fans reacted to Leigh’s response as him chasing the money fight. However, it will not happen. Leigh Wood could fight someone else for his title defense.
Floyd Mayweather’s New Young Prodigy
Curmel Moton is a 17-year-old prodigy signed to Mayweather Promotions. Mayweather has very high hopes for Curmel to the point where he believes he deserves a world title fight. It is important to note that Muton has yet to make his professional debut.
Curmel, despite his youth, has a remarkable track record. He has won various amateur titles, including an incredible 18X National Championship title. Curmel’s extraordinary abilities are evident in his sparring bouts with notable people like Gervonta “Tank” Davis. He sparred with Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis at the age of 16, and Gervonta is the best fighter in the lower weight classes and another personal favorite for Mayweather.
Since Curmel has already sparred with him at such a young age, reflecting he will have the capabilities and potential to become the best. He has already won 18 amateur titles, and Mayweather believes he should make his pro debut against the WBA featherweight champion Wood. Only time will tell if Moton will live up to the expectations.
