Oleksandr Usyk has been asking for the Tyson Fury heavyweight title unification fight for a long time now. After Fury got out of retirement,it was expected of him to fight Usyk, and there were certain developments regarding the fight, but later it was found out that everything was put on hold.

Now, Tyson Fury is gearing up for his crossover boxing bout with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in October. The stage is set and the rivals are ready, but Usyk doesn’t have any idea why this fight is taking place in the first place.

During a conversation with BBC Sport, the fighter said: “I think it’s an easy money for Tyson Fury. For Ngannou this is cool, but for Tyson Fury it isn’t. I think, for me, it looks a little bit strange. Not a little, too strange. If a guy who is the WBC heavyweight champion suddenly, instead of fighting the guy from the top ten, suddenly chooses the guy as his opponent, the one who’s coming from UFC,”

According to the Ukrainian, Fury is going to win and make a hefty fight purse, but he finds it weird that the champion is fighting someone who is not a top ten heavyweight contender in the world.

Oleksandr Usyk successfully defended his unified heavyweight title by defeating Daniel Dubois with a ninth-round knockout in Britain. However, the win was overshadowed by the controversial knockdown of Usyk that took place in the fifth round. The referee ruled out a punch from Dubois, claiming that it was a low blow, which the fighter protested after the fight.

Usyk was asked about the punch after the fight, and he said: “You are not allowed to hit a man in [that area]. Listen, boxing it’s a sport for gentlemen, it’s not a street fight. It’s boxing, How can I be guilty in wearing shorts? The low blow comes not from wearing shorts like this but the low blow itself,” he said, before giving a smile to the reporters “I’m ready to fight without shorts.”
