Rolando Romero lost his WBA lightweight title during his fight against Isaac Cruz. Rolly was quite confident that the fight would be easy, and he even called his opponent “stupid.” Hence, Romero believed that he would easily be able to tackle Cruz’s ‘predictable’ fighting style. However, this did not happen during the fight, and Cruz easily laid waste to Romero. While reacting to the fight, Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins trolled Rolly for his loss.
As mentioned earlier, Romero was quite confident that he would win and knock out Cruz. During the pre-fight press conference, he called him ‘Chihuahua Cruz‘. Rolly stated that Cruz is not a ‘Pitbull’ but rather a chihuahua because they only bark and do not bite. Pitbull Cruz had promised to make Rolly eat his words during the fight, and he kept that promise. Furthermore, after the devastating loss, De La Hoya uploaded a video stating:
Chihuahua beat youOscar De La Hoya on X
De La Hoya appeared to be at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to witness the fight in person. In the video, he seems to be giving his live reaction after Romero got defeated via an eight-round stoppage. As such, De La Hoya can be seen laughing hysterically while clapping his hands.
In the video, Hopkins also appeared briefly and laughed similarly with the intent to troll Romero. They seemed to be poking fun at Romero for calling the fight easy and for calling Cruz a chihuahua, only to be defeated by him. Subsequently, De La Hoya’s reaction was expected since they both have been beefing for some time now.
Ryan Garcia trolls Rolando Romero after losing to Isaac Cruz
De La Hoya was not the only one to ridicule Romero for his loss, since fighter Ryan Garcia also did the same on social media. Initially, when Garcia hadn’t secured his opponent back in January, he was in talks to fight Romero. At one point, ‘KingRy’ even opted to drop the Devin Haney fight just to fight Romero for the WBA lightweight title.
However, Romero put an end to this plan by deciding to fight Cruz instead of Garcia. This caused Garcia to again restart negotiations with Haney. Hence, Romero’s loss was probably cathartic for Garcia to witness after Rolly dropped their fight. While reacting to the fight, Garcia brought up how Romero dropped their fight and ended up getting knocked out.
Furthermore, Garcia suggested that Rolly should get into influencer boxing, which implied he doesn’t deserve to fight professional boxers. In addition, Ryan Garcia trolled him even more by stating that the influencer boxer Deen The Great could defeat him.
