After posing as a drag model for a photoshoot, boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya was once embroiled in a controversy. Oscar wore wigs, high heels, and lingerie during the shoot but came out and claimed innocence over it. Years later, the former world champion finally admitted the truth. New York Post confirmed that De La Hoya paid $20 million to secure silence regarding the scandal.
Recently, Oscar De La Hoya sat down with Ariel Helwani to discuss what happened. After the photoshoot, the lady who took it leaked it online, leading to a scandal. De La Hoya told Helwani that the lady hid in Costa Rica, and his team managed to find her. De La Hoya said, “Apparently, there were three girls. I was drugged up and drinking.” Helwani has a way of getting information out of the guests on his show.
However, De La Hoya stated that his team found the right people and money to convince experts to confirm that the photos were manipulated with technology. The boxing legend also said that he got more famous because of the scandal and sold more PPVs. De La Hoya competed in the 1992 Olympics and won the gold medal in Barcelona. He was the biggest money maker in boxing before Floyd Mayweather surpassed him.
The boxing legend retired with a record of 39 wins and six losses. He had a 31-fight winning streak before facing his first defeat. De La Hoya fought the best boxers of his time, like Mayweather, Shane Mosley, Manny Pacquiao, Julio Cesar Chavez, Bernard Hopkins, and Arturo Gatti. He retired in 2009 after losing to Pacquiao.

Oscar De La Hoya makes a shocking claim about Canelo Alvarez
Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya has managed many fighters from Mexico under his Golden Boy Promotions. Canelo Alvarez remains the best fighter to be managed by the promotion. Canelo left the promotion to fight in Matchroom Boxing in 2020.
Despite holding no ill will, De La Hoya made some remarks regarding the career of Canelo. De La Hoya believed that Canelo may have deteriorated as a boxer. He said, “Not because he’s (Canelo) in wars, but because he started professionally when he was 15.”
The last few fights of Canelo have left much to be desired from the Mexican boxer. He lost to Dmitry Bivol and won a decision against an old version of GGG. This year, he defeated John Ryder unanimously. However, fans felt that Canelo should be finishing fighters like Ryder.
